Biography

Norwegian saxophonist Andrey Fjeldstad is a versatile performer, composer, and educator based in Birmingham, UK. A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied with Naomi Sullivan, Andrew Tweed and Anna Brooks, he completed his degree with First Class Honours and received the Principal’s Prize in recognition of his outstanding achievements.He has also taken multi-instrumental lessons (clarinet and flute) with Paul Saunders, Anna Hashimoto and Diane Clark.

Andrey’s artistry is rooted in collaboration and the creation of new music. He works closely with composers to develop original works that expand the expressive range of the saxophone. His project Fjord Fantasia, a celebration of Norwegian music for saxophone. It featured four world premieres and highlighted his dedication to cross-cultural and contemporary creativity.

As a dynamic and adaptable performer, Andrey has toured across the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands with Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, performing on major festival stages to audiences of several thousand. He has also performed in Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and in the US as part of various collaborative projects. He also performs regularly with the RBC India Ensemble, serving as lead saxophonist and ensemble manager together with Dr. Radhika Balakrishnan, appearing alongside renowned artists including Shankar MahadevanZakir Hussain and John McLaughlin.

He has undertaken masterclasses and courses with internationally acclaimed artists such as Kyle Horch, Asya Fateyeva, Claude Delangle, Kenneth Tse, Christian Wirth, Lutz Koppetsch, Amy Dickson, Katia Beaugeais, Aina Davidsen, Lars Lien, the Rascher Saxophone Quartet, Laefer Quartet, Atea Quintet and the Rolin’Phones Quartet.

An active chamber musician, Andrey performs in a Saxophone and Piano duo with Bianca Vancea, and in  Nordlys Sax Duo with multi-instrumentalist Amy Hunt, both exploring repertoire that bridges classical, folk, and contemporary influences. Dedicated to education, Andrey has taught and conducted in Norway and has given classes in the Faroe Islands, inspiring musicians of all levels through collaboration and creativity.
